Social Clan Chat

Recommended Posts

With the new dictatorship that is the Zenyte clan chat and not being able to have a social experience is ruining my time on this server. I can't talk about anything unless it's in the form of a question regarding the server which is flat out stupid. It ruins the social aspect of being on a private server. The main reason I play RSPS is for a few reasons, one is that that I don't have to pay for a membership, the other is I am able to have conversations and make friends. RSPS's are small communities and you get to know a lot of people, now that the cc is so strictly help enforced I can't meet people and make relationships. It is making me not want to play anymore as I can't even talk to anyone. The mods told me to join a clan chat called convulsion or something like that and there was NOT A SINGLE PERSON IN THERE. The Zenyte CC has the majority of the server in it, and to restrict us to asking questions only is plain stupid.

I absolutely fell in love with this server, but the fact that I can't even talk about a television show, or the football game from the night before is ridiculous.

I shouldn't have to download a separate application (discord) to chat with people in-game when there is a functioning chat system enabled already.

Perhaps a dedicated social clan chat would be a good idea. I know many people want to chit-chat and socialize with one another, but Help probably isn't the best place to do that because someone legitimately looking for help might be drowned out and never get the help they need. Having a Social clan chat would alleviate this issue and allow people who want to chit-chat to do so without disrupting the Help clan chat. I'd like to see something like that implemented.

The help CC is for help period. I do however support your idea of a so called “social CC”

While I do understand your concerns as a player wanting to have engaging conversations and building relationships on Zenyte, I don't think making the help cc a global hub for socializing is a must. It's there for help. With the update of our rules here recently it is stated that general discussion and chat is ok in the help cc so long as it doesn't outweigh the people asking for help.

We promote community engagement and socializing here and want players to feel like they can do that without feeling "caged in" by a lot of rules. That being said, there's a multitude of clans out here on Zenyte looking for members, and while they're not as big as the help cc it's the services provided to players that enables them to create their own social groups to engage in.

Having a Social Clan Chat created to be moderated by staff sounds like it would be more of a task for us to do (coming from a staff point of view). I do not support the creation of another cc for this matter. I do, however, support small chit chat and conversation in the help cc. As long as it doesn't break any of our rules, I'm okay with that.

Baka practically mentioned everything I wanted to say but yeah

socialising in the help cc is totally fine, what is not is when some players getting upset over someones statements which starting in most of the cases from totally harmless conversations, and ofcourse in a lot of the cases more than just 1-2 players are getting involved with it and they keep carrying it on and on. As we know that is against the rules of zenyte/help cc and its totally ethical for a staff member to kick in such scenarios.

tl;tr

If you wont get involved with someone trying to flamebait you and actually having civilized conversation in help cc with someone that can accept your opinions in different aspects/angles feel free to do so.

This was something I thought about as well I won't lie. It's a huge issue in the help cc - despite the rules of general discussion being "ok" there are still some people who will jump in and tell you to keep it help related. (Seen someone talking about something the other day; something small, and was instantly told to keep it help related although it could have easily counted towards general discussion) I will admit, I have been outspoken and have asked people to PLEASE keep it help related, but that's only when it comes to certain topics that could cause fights or create a toxic environment. (Such as; politics, trolling, etc) I love to help people, and it's hard to do when people are fighting over silly subjects, especially ones that can be done in PMs.

But you have to consider the cons as well. While it sounds fantastic to have a separate cc, it's hard for admins, mods, and server support to be in two cc's at the same time. Making sure everyone is following the rules AND getting the help they need is difficult already and when you add another cc to the list it just makes it even MORE difficult.

When you have an official social clan chat, you have a large majority of the server in one place and things can escalate insanely fast, I've seen it happen. This will quickly make it not enjoyable to the other people in the clan chat, and could turn people off from not only the cc, but possibly the server as well. (With it being an official server clan chat, people would have expectations; such as a safe environment)

The fantastic part about the clan chat system is that you're not obligated to stay in one cc. There are plenty other "social" cc's out there, and quite a few has more than a handful of members in it.

IMO, I've always liked the rule of thumb that all chatter is okay as long as questions aren't being ignored. If questions are answered, then we're good. If someone asked a question and no one answered or saw it because of a non-help discussion, then that discussion needs to chill.

I do like that you can't advertise sells or items in there anymore. That's actually a good rule. But to shut down all non-help chat is a bad idea.

I have thought about this for awhile and I may add a separate chat system to replace the help cc. There is a glaringly obvious flaw in the current way of handling global chatting. Chambers of Xeric requires people to leave the help cc and join their own clan so a portion of the server is never in said clan, and several instances rely on clans as well. Ever since we released raids I've been thinking of implementing a separate chat that would work similarly to clans, but it wouldn't actually use clans, so people could be in the global help chat whilst also being in a clan of their own - or whatever clan would take the spot of being the main hub.

This separate chat system requires a fair bit of client edits which as we know aren't easy to do on mobile, which is also why I've held it off for awhile now. We would also have to design our own tab/interface to display the information about the chat. It's a fairly big project but it will come eventually - whether that is through the clan changes that are coming through OSRS or our own. For those unaware, OSRS is also redoing their clans and when that is done - there will be two different chats available; a friends chat and a clan chat, very much like RS3.

Edit: Oh and almost forgot to clarify the point of this thread - help chat would still be monitored as it is right now, but whatever chat would take its place as the main hub would be much less strict and people would only be muted for the normal rulebreaking, not going off-topic of any of that.
